Car cuts off when I hit the gas

When I am sitting with my vehicle in park, if I hit the gas my car sputters then the engine cuts off. The gas cut-off light comes on. Why? What should I check? What causes this?

The engine probably is cutting out because you are demanding fuel and no fuel can get to it. You may have to replace the fuel filter - perhaps it is blocked. When you turn your ignition on listen to see if you hear the fuel pump - hums for a few seconds. If there is no noise then you have a bad fuel pump. Does the car run otherwise? You may want to check your spark plugs and see if they are in good shape. You could check to see if your belts are tight because I had a pulley become lose, that ran the idle control, and my car did that also. Otherwise you are probably getting into an electrical problem.

The car runs, but sounds bad. I am thinking this all might be related.
How do you check the fuel filter? Where is it? What should it look like??

check ur fuel pressure and make sure ur cam sensor is plugged in. vacuum leaks too, check for 'em
