Vortec V6 heads
Hello I am running a 1985 4.3L V6 in my 1985 toyota 4runner. I have pulled the engine out and will rebuild it. Goal is 300+ HP...I will run flat top pistons, big cam etc..My question is this..Heads: I was told that the Vortec heads flow much better then the stock heads that are on the engine now. I am willing to invest big$$ in rebuilding a set of heads, to include precutting the valves for 2.02 & 1.60. Shaving the heads 0.010 etc. I just want to know are the vortec heads better flowing and if so what is the part number I am looking for. I will buy the Edelbrock aluminum intake for the carb set up. They now make an intake for this set up. Help me out..
Thanks in advance Chuck |

Re: Vortec V6 heads
Yes vortec heads flow way better and are worth the money. I'm not sure of the numbers needed. But from looking at them, the oldest set I found came on a 96. Besides the different intake you will need the plastic valve covers for rocker clearance.
