Imports vs. Domestics

This post may be irrelivant - but I've seen so much flaming recently I can't help it. I don't want to dislike this place, I used to love so much being here. But sometimes the amount of flaming taking place isn't what I'd call a friendly forum.

God DAYUM there is a fair bit of flaming in this thread! Not as bad as what I've seen in the Honda/Acura forum recently. This place is getting terrible - everyone bitching at everyone. Can't says I like it. Being a New Zealander I'm not really part of the "domestic vs. Import" arguement, but to me it's all up to taste. I don't care if a stock B16A doesn't have as much power as other stock engines, it's a hell of a good four banger, with enough power to upset some fair cars.

I also don't give a flying fuck if the same mods done to a domestic will produce more horsepower than mods done to a Japanese car. Seriously, who gives a shit?!? I personally have a love affair with Hondas, and yeah, I love Civics, I don't care if they aren't fast in comparison with some others!! I'd love to do one up and spank some other guys in different cars... who have just had the shit scared out of them because a Civic just thrashed them. I don't really give a toss if similar mods done to the other car could beat the Civic, that's their choice.

In my humble opinion, the Civic is a nice looking and modestly performing car, that responds nicely to modification and can surprise some higher specced cars - even turbos and V8's. I personally chose the Honda NSX, but would have preferred a Honda S2000 or Integra Type R.

The whole point to this post is - don't hurt someone because of what they choose to drive, or choose to make faster. That's their choice, their individuality and tastes coming into play. Good on them! If we all got together and decided that a certain car had the best bang for buck stock, and responded the best to modifications with an acceptable cost, then many people would own this car, in varying states of modification.
Where's the fun in that? I love the challenge of Honda vs. a turbo'd car, or Nissan vs. Subaru. It's all up to your taste in car. If you love Nissans and do yours up to xxx horsepower, good on ya. Numbers are impressive, but you gotta love what you buy, and do it up for the love of the car, not because you're getting numbers that will make people say "Viper GTS-R will respond better to mods".

Seriously... I've said it before and I'll say it again. I don't give a rat's ass if there are cars that'll whip my Honda - good on ya, do ya feel big now?!? I don't have a modded Honda, sure, so many people will kick my sorry arse. Whoopty shit! When I get my choice Honda and have a tinker with it, I'll be surprising a fair amount of people - even if I still get beat occasionally. I'll still be happy with my car, and proud of it.

No offense meant to any specific poster in this thread. Sorry about the length of my post. Enjoy

Peace
Flame me if you wish, but so many people are only degrading themselves when resorting to bashing others in here, I might advise against it. That's not to stop you, however.

As I said, Peace.

i know how this whole thing goes because lately i have been thinking about getting a v8 just for another project since i have neer stepped into that relm of car. yes they have more power and so on but it is still a car right? just because people like all cars they get bashed but here is my thing. since i have a few friends that drives turbo v6's and all motor v8's and they know i know nothing about these cars so i listen and then i turn right around and tell them about imports and surprisingly they are really interested. so with all the hating going on who really looks like an ass? we do, we make ourselves look stupid sometimes and it can beone person but that one person can cause a bad rep for everyone. granted there are some cocky v8 drivers but i mean you should not down their cars and gripe about them whent hey don't do the same thing about us.

I have this argument with my friends all the time. Half of us drive mustangs and the others hondas. They always say the same thing to me - put xx dollars into your civic and I'll put the same in my mustang, and we'll see whose is faster. I cant argue with that, but its all in fun. I love hondas, and as an engineer, I dont see a comparison in that department with american manufacturers. The classic "bigger is better" mentality only works for food in my opinion. I appreciate that hondas can hang with those large displacement cars, and if I drop $6k into my little, old civic, who gives a damn. I love my car, and I will spend money on it as long as I have some. I wanted to make a point here, but I forgot what I was gonna say, heh. Rock on.

I love this forum! Why is it that the only rational intellgent Honda owners drive EF's and all the young imature guys (with some exceptions, and they know who they are so I won't name them) drive all the other models?
This forum never has any troubles, threads never have to be closed, the members never cause trouble, and never ever get banned.

Its a real shame we cant all get together somewhere with our cars and have one massive EF (and EBs etc) civic/CRX meet.

anyway, sorry for that out burst of sentimentality, but this really is a rather cool section of AF/PH, now if you'll excuse me it sounds like I have some work to do.

I tend to look at any well crafted car and judge it on its merits. Personally, I'm sick of Subaru WRXs - you cant move two inches without tripping over one here. Sure they are fast, but put a stock one on the track against an Integra Type R and the teg will run rings around one based on handling. Likewise with bent 8s and 6s.

Currently I've fallen in love with the Holden Monaro Coupe. I went for a drive in one yesterday - a friend had just had it delivered - OMG - so much power and torque from the 5.7 liter 8 in stock trim - plus good looks and reasonable handling.

But I wouldn't trade my 4G Civic in on anything. Likewise I'm trying to hunt down a Honda City Turbo II for my daughter to learn how to drive with on the track and at advanced driving lessons. She's 11 and I want a good 5 years of experience for her before she gets her licence. I'm also looking at doing a SBC 1G Civic up as well - full house turbo setup with the long term aim of getting 200bhp from it. There's one over here with that sort of power and it smokes just about everything on the track.

Basically - I don't give a rats arse about brandname or engine capacity. It's about driving what I like

Question

Yea i could seriously care what i drive. I like my CRX and that's what counts. If a domestic guy pulls up next to me and laughs, i just think "wait till the day i can beat you" As for other imports that are 4 cylinder, I dont mind trying to keep up with them, it's just the fun in it.

Both domestics and imports totally 0wn me. I like the aggressive looks and huge power that you get from muscle cars, but I also like the clean and elegant look of the modern imports. Although the only reason I have an import is for economic reasons, if money wasn't an issue, A 1970 Pontiac GTO would be sitting in my driveway right now.
