Question Belly pan / Underbody panel?

I know some Fiero owners have installed belly pans, and I have a few questions.

I have to drive a few miles on gravel to get to work, and my engine gets completely caked in dust. Are there any drawbacks to installing a belly pan? Any that would outweigh keeping the incredible amount of dust and crud out of the engine compartment?

And are there any available out there somewhere, or would I need to have one custom made? Does anyone have plans for one, or would I have to figure that out myself?

Thanks again,
JP

Only a little leaking from the filler cap.

So, does anyone have any ideas?

BTW, I'm sure I'll need a door or removable panel to change the oil.

Re: Belly pan / Underbody panel?

What is the advantage of a belly pan? Wouldn't that increase the temp to the engine compartment on a car that already has high temps in this area??

My problem is horrible amounts of gravel dust in the engine compartment, and all over everything. It just cakes on so thick that I'm sure it even makes the car run hotter.

If it turns out to be a heat issue, I can just route some other *clean* air to the engine compartment.
