Question mkIII won't start

I recently bought an 89 supra turbo, and it currently does not start. I have done a compression test and the numbers on all cyllinder's were close to each other as well as the one's in the TSRM. I also checked to make sure I have spark on all cyll which i do. Any thoughts as to what it may be? The car cranks fine, but won't turn over at all. I thought maybe bad fuel pump, but i can smell fuel on the plugs. The gas in the car is quite old, as it has been sitting a while, and one of my friends thinks this may be the reason it isn't starting. I have been troubleshooting for a few days without luck, so any input would be appretiated.

brad.

Re: mkIII won't start

Pulled the codes yet? It turns over fine but just doesn't start at all? If it's getting fuel, and it's getting spark and it's getting air, it should at least start then sputter and die. So either its getting flodded out, the plugs a fouled, the intake is clogged with something, or like you said the gas is bad, theres an allen screw plug on the bottom of the tank where you can drain it, try that and post back with some results. Can you smell the gas out the exhaust? Does the gas smell bad/old?

Re: mkIII won't start

the gas smells aweful, it is over a year old. it definately gets spark, and i jumped the B+ and the FP plugs on the service connector and you can hear the fuel pump come on, but i am not sure if it comes on when cranking because it's kinda loud. it almost sounds like it is gonna turn over but then never makes it. thes is no smell from the exhaust at all. the intake is not clogged, i took all the pipes off and looked. the plugs are new. i am thinking it's the gas, but i am not sure what to use to drain it into. the car seems to have about a 1/4 of a tank on the meter, so i assume it's more than that so we are talking approximately 6 gallons. any ideas on what to drain it into? jack it up and use a bucket? use a syphon pump instead?

thanks

19.5 gallon tank give or take alittle, but just do what you had in mind, jack it up some and drain it into a 5 gallon bucket. Did you pull the codes yet?

Re: mkIII won't start

that's what i was thinking.

i pulled the codes and it just flashes steadily, so no code, but the bettery was completely dead when i bought it, so it may have cleared them
