Unhappy '99 Grand Cherokee Tail Light

My driverside tail light goes out when I step on the brake. All bulbs are good. I have heard (and read on this forum) that this is a known problem. Does anyone know how to fix it?

Re: '99 Grand Cherokee Tail Light

First placei would look is to see if that tail light bulb is grounded properly in the socket itself.
I had a similar problem with a 89 Cherokee ..my front drivers side parking light would go out when i put the bright lights on...still confuses me today but it was a bad ground not making proper contact in the socket...i cleaned the socket and attached a piece of wire to ground the bulb better...anyway this fixed it.
oh yeah...also when this happen at the same time it also illuminated the left turn signal solid on the dash indicator.
Bad grounds in those sockets can cause wierd problems.

Re: '99 Grand Cherokee Tail Light

There is a known problem with the taillamp assemblys they have a set of contact boards built into them that sometimes bend or get hot and touch each other causing a new circuit to form resulting invarious defects. pull the lamps off and closely inspect the sockets especially the top ones the problem is usually there. Unfortunately the lamp comes as an assembly you cant get the boards seperate.
