Lost all oil in a 1998 Cherokee

Hi all, I have a strange oil problem.

I lost all of my oil a few days ago while driving to the store. The oil gauge was at zero, so I pulled over. After refilling the oil, I started the engine and saw oil gushing out of the distributor cap. Is this possible?

I have removed the distributor and it looks fine. The oil pressure sending unit is not the issue. My car has 64K miles. Should I replace the distributor?

Thanks for any information.

Re: Lost all oil in a 1998 Cherokee

Well the Fram oil filter had two oil seals. I did not notice that when I installed it.
Must be some defect.

Over time oil was pushed between the seals and caused the oil to leak out.

Hope this helps. The good news is that I always use Castro Syntec and it protected my engine.
