installing alarm bypass module on a 97 cutlass supreme

i'm in the process of installing a remote starter in my 97 cutlass supreme. to do this, i also need to install an alarm bypass module which i perchased. the instructions say to "locate the small three wire harness (white, yellow, and black on cars) that come off the ignition lock cylinder" i'm supposed to cut the yellow one, strip the black one, and with my car in reverse hop on one leg and touch my nose.....ok, just kidding about that one. with the key in the run position, i put it in reverse, connect the key side of the yellow wire and the black wire to my multimeter....turn the ignition to the start position, and get a resistance reading. i did find a four wire harness coming out of the steering column that had green, grey, yellow, and black/white. i assume this is it and do what i was told but get no resistor reading. after saying all that, if you're still reading, i applaude you, lol. please help!

Re: installing alarm bypass module on a 97 cutlass supreme

Not sure where you have been getting your information on your car but you do not have Passlock or Passkey on it. So, you'll never see the wires you described. If you did have one of these systems, you would have easily found them because they plug right into a small module that surrounds the cyl. lock.

What you have is the old VATS system that's been around since the early 80's. You should have a black "chip" in your keys. If you have your meter on each side of the black chip, you'll get the value you need. Then, what you need to do is find the orange ribbon cable. On some cars you can follow that cable to a plug under the dash where the little 24 gauge wires turn into 18 gauge. Then you'll either need to use something like DEI part# 652t that has all the exact restance values or visit Radio Shack. Go to http://directed.com/guides/manuals/i...N542P_6-03.pdf and scroll down to page 25 to see what you need to do. You can also visit www.bulldogsecurity.com to see vehicle wiring and such. Good luck!

Yes, for some reason some of the late 90's cars would state that's what they have but they don't. Trust me, if you see a little black "chip" in the key (it would be about in the middle) you have the VATS system. The true PK2 system you would not see anything in the key. Actually, there's a module that is attached to the ignition switch and relays the needed info to the BCM. This is done all electronically where the system you should have is a mechanical system. It has to have the "chip" mechanically inserted before the car will start.

Curious, what brand of RS are you installing, is it new, price???

Re: installing alarm bypass module on a 97 cutlass supreme

i have the autocommand "deluxe remote starter with keyless entry and alarm"....i think it's model #26724. i got it from this place called Petra that my company orders supplies from at wholesale. most of the time they have good prices, but sometimes you can get better at walmart. the wholesale is 77.98, plus shipping, plus a 10% markup tha i have to pay. i dont know exactly how much i ended up paying but prob. no more than 90-95. btw, i measured the resistance of the key last night but didn't get a very accurate reading with my multimeter that i got at walmart for like $5, lol. so i'm gonna take it to school and measure it there (i'm going to school for electrical and computer engineering). i didn't have time to actually do anything to the car last night but i'll keep you posted. thanks again for your help.
