D16Z6: What kinds of gains?

Hi,

I have a D16Z6 motor that I plan to transplant into my 1990 Civic Hatch. What kinds of gains can I expect from an all motor build-up. I eventually will go turbo, but I think you can learn more about an engine by building it up naturally first. Here are some of my ideas so far:

Intake & Exhaust:
DC Sports 4-2-1 Headers (Acquired)
Thermal Catback Exhaust (Smoggable?)
Catco High-Flow Cat
AEM Cold-Air Intake
Skunk2 Intake Manifold
Skunk2 Cam (or Crower?)
Skunk2 Valves & Retainers

Fuel:
AEM Fuel Rail
RC 440cc Injectors
AEM Fuel Pressure Regulator
Walbro Fuel Pump

Ignition:
MSD 6AL Ignition
MSD HVC Blaster Coil
MSD Dist. Cap
Nology Hotwires

Internals:
JE 10:1 or 11:1 Pistons
Crower Rods

Engine Management/Electronics:
Hondata ECU

I expect at least 250 hp from this setup or at least 220 to the wheels. Does that sound right? If anybody has experience with this motor. No I don't want to swap. If I wanted a GSR engine I would buy a GSR thanks.

Re: D16Z6: What kinds of gains?

With that set up you would have to do alot of head work and I then you are going to be looking at about 170whp with out turbo. Also if you are going turbo dont go with the 11:1 more like the 9.6:1's it will be a little slower before turbo but you will like the fact that your head didnt crack when you put on turbo. Just my thoughts and what I have read while doing my z6. As far as smogging it with all that stuff done IT WILL NOT HAPPEN unless you have a "guy" like everybody talks about but so how it never turns out.

Re: D16Z6: What kinds of gains?

you will in no way get 250 horses from all tthat expect to get like no more than 140hp with those mods, and thats 140 to the flywheel.

I'd say RedRacerCivic is on the right track here, you will only make about 140 give or take 5 horse with those mods listed, before turbo that is. You won't need those 440 injectors until you boost it and raising the compression to 10:1 or 11:1 won't do you any good either with the turbo setup.

Just curious, what are you planning on doing with the other header?

Re: D16Z6: What kinds of gains?

140 only? Thats not too impressive considering the money. On second thought, maybe i'll pass on the all-motor path then. I can get more gains with a bolt-on turbo kit for less money. I just thought it would be a good learning process before boosting. Maybe i'll just keep it simple: Intake, headers, & exhaust & 75-100 shot of nitrous while I save up the money for a turbo.

Do you mean 10 hp per mod or 10 hp total?

The DC headers are all I have. The other headers off of my old engine are for a D15B1. Garbage!!

Okay,

I've been thinking and i'm trying to understand how I would only get about 140 to the wheels with all of those mods. Help me understand where i'm going wrong here.

My estimate:

Stock flywheel HP: 125@6700

Intake Mods: +10 (better intake velocity and consistency)
Exhaust Mods: +10 (freer exhaust flow with good velocity)
Skunk2/Crower Cam: +10 (more air flow at higher rpm)
Fuel Mods: +5 (due to better fuel flow consistency)
Valvetrain Mods: +10 (rev to 8000 rpm)
Ignition Mods: +10 (due to better combustion at higher revs)
Engine Management: +20 (More control over VTEC tuning and the ability
to synchronize several mods to work well with one another)

= 200 HP. Is this totally unrealistic?

he was talking about you saying "headers" as opposed to "header". You only use one header on a 4 cylinder. PErsonally i think osmeone who nitpicks that has way too much fuckin time on their hands...its kinda annoying...but just FYI

Re: D16Z6: What kinds of gains?

You won't get that much horsepower to the flywheel in my opinion.

Okay, how would you fix it? I'm starting to think forced induction is the last hope for these little engines to compete with the DOHC frenzy.
