Re: rear end thumps when i pull out.
is it a knock or a thump? metal to metal? Does it do it if you hit a big bump?

Re: rear end thumps when i pull out.
Well if it was only when you step on it, Ide lean away from suspension and say that the problem lies in your drivetrain...Are you sure the sound isnt coming from your tranny? Check the simplest things first though, check the universals and driveshaft for play.. if nothing there, you'l havta pull your diff cover off and check the magnet, then visually inspect the spyders, axles, etc..

does it feel like the rear end is going to roll out of it?
i had almost the exact same problem right before the spider gears broke and took out some teeth on the ring and pinion.

Re: rear end thumps when i pull out.
could be many things, rear end (differential) could be loose, although thats more of a bang, could have a damaged or missing bushing somewhere on the suspention, could have a loose bolt or nut on the torque arm, lots of stuff. hard to say without actually being there. damn internet

my problem was that the dumbass that changed the gears before me didn't set either the pinion depth right, or didn't set the ring to pinion clearence right. when ever i'd stomp it, i think it was either binding or changing the angle of the pinion. didn't make any gring noises or bangs, just made a dull thump and felt like the rear end was rolling out of it
