Camaro vs. 240sx

My friend drives an 90 camaro a/t. He wants to race me after he beat a 97 prelude and a crx. I got a 92 240sx fastback, i figure an 8-cyl would beat a 4-cyl, so what do i need to beat him?

If he knows how to drive, you need about $8,000 - $10,000 depending on the current condition of you're car.
My brother's 2000' prelude ran 15.5 stock, and after a little bit of work he got it down to 15.1. V8 camaros can take that prelude out by a fair margin.

then i probably wont race him in drag. What if his camaro is the v6, instead of v8, cuz i juz saw it from the outside and it doesnt say iroc-z ?
Also, what are the chances in racing in a track?

ARE YOU OUT YOUR DAMN MINDS its a 90 Camaro meaning its slow as FUCK either in V6 form a V8 Forms, base the 240 would stick with it for awhile but yeah eventually the camaro would take it hitting 60mph plus. But dude if you do minor bolt ons and bring the output to 200hp or so you should kill any V6 camaro no mater what year. Camaros are SLOW in automatic and V6 form period!

im gonna check some more details tomorrow, we'll probably race this friday or next week. The only mod my car has is a clutch master that my cousin put b4 he sold it to me. I'll keep checking out for info.

Also, I am more like the strategical type of driver, is there any info on time shifting or gear ratio's for the 240?

HAHAHHA u guys are funny

ive ripped the shit out of eveyr older camaro i raced
most older camaros
are either completely done up
or complete pieces of shift

as for the 240sx
there all 10440534 hp machines and can rip any car on the road :-D

lol jk

my advice

find ur shift points

dont redline in every damn gear like a damn goof
for a near stock car id say redline shifting to 2nd

about 6200 to 3rd
and just under 6th for shifting into 4th,

u shouldnt even get to forth anyways

but make sure and dont wrecked ur damn cars
be safe
and wear ur damn seat belts

Its a fucking 90 camaro like he said
there both fucking slow unless the guy has some serious cash to throw away on an old ass automatic camaro

and do u think he is gonna waste his time on ricers if he did
have serious cash to throw in on it

plus he beat 2 ricers who prolly didnt know how to drive

if anything
race him
and if u lose, just scream cheater and tell him that hes racing out of his class v6 or v8 against 4banger!! CHEAAAATERRRRRRRRRR

depends on how good ur clutch is, how much traction ur tires have

id say around 2000-2500, not too high because first gear is where ur gonan get him the most

ive noticed that i can pull on most cars thro 1st and 2nd, but once i hit 3rd they start pulling up on me for a bit

try just letting the clutch out first and as soon as u feel ur car grabbing mash the gas
or try riding ur clutch a little bit thro 1st gear to see if that works better
unless ur worried about runnin up ur clutch a bit than
just stick with the first one

i find its really hard to think about what i do when i race because it usually happens so fast and i just do what i do naturally

Re: Camaro vs. 240sx

Third is really bad about pulling. Not to sound stupid, but a 50 shot of nitrous would do miracles for the third gear pull.

Camaro auto's are faster then the 6 speed, atleast with the LS1 engine.....

if it doesn't say IROC-Z z28 on the outside its slow. It can either have a truck based 305 TBI v8, which is terrible on HP, or a v6. The Z28's had the "better" TPI 305's and 350's....

On the asumption that the car was a V8, and the driver was fairly experianced it would take more than bolt on's to beat it. First gear is the only gear in your favor, if you break even on second gear then you might win, but you need to be like 6-10 car lenghts ahead of him by that time if you want to win at the 1320.

I raced against my dad's 72' Trans am (which he has 13.17 second time cards on). I got about 10 feet ahead of him for first gear, by the end of second gear he was 10 feet ahead of me, and as soon as I hit third gear he roared about 100-200 feet ahead of me.. at LEAST 100 feet ahead of me =(.

If it's a V6 camaro and the guy's not to bright, you might be able to take him I guess..

On stock launch I always faired better launching at 3200rpms and feathering the clutch a bit so you don't just slip. After I got some nice tires on there I've been launching as high as 4000 with out too many problems. Launching takes lots of practice though.

Tell you what, just don't race the quarter mile, if you race him on the 1/8th mile where your high torque/weight ratio is dominant, you have a very good chance of winning =)

What do the V8 camaros run? high 14's low 15's I thought..
