Help a newb out...

Hi everyone, i'm new to these forums. I have been trying to do some research on mitsubishi eclipse's, especially the gsx's and i came across this forum. i'm trying to learn as much as i can about the gsx, because that's the car i really want to get as a long-term project car.

I was wondering if you guys can help me find information about the gsx, my goals are to build an eclipse, pretty much from scrap. i want to completely customize it. i have some other goals that may be far-fetched but i don't know the limits to the car yet. some of the goals are to fit a v6 engine in a 99 gsx, i have no idea if this can be done, it is not a goal made from research. Just a goal for me to target and maybe accomplish. I'm still a student in high school, i do not own an eclipse or anything. I'm probably attending a technical school to learn about modding cars and things of that sort.

I'm not asking for anyone to give me a long explanation on eclipse's, but maybe directing me to some links? i know this process will take awhile, and there will always be something new to learn about eclipse's. at the moment, i'm not looking for every little detail yet. i'd like a breif overview or knowledge of the basics.

any help would be appreciated.

-Jonathan

Check the stickies at the top of the page. By the way, why would you want to put a V6 in a GSX????

A v6 weighs more than the 4 cyl. that the eclipses have. A gsx has the 4g63 which is an excellent platform engine which could do wonders if tuned properly. In fact, tuning that engine correctly would make it faster than if you put a v6 in it.

thanks, see it's this little stuff that i don't really know about. the weight difference from a v6 to v4. i guess i'll just stick with a v4 then? now is the 4g63 a stock engine? or is it aftermarket?

i've already read a sticky at the top, but i'll be sure to check them all out. thanks for the replies.

is there any aftermarket engines that you could swap? that would benefit at least.

There could be, but why would you want to waste the time and money to do that when this engine, WITH A LOT OF WORK, and done properly has the potential of an 800hp car.

like i said, i don't really know these things. now that you mention potential 800hp, i guess i'll be happy if i could get it that high this is also a long-term project car. i guess money and time wouldn't really be much of an issue.

question regarding dual exhuast...

i've seen it before on eclipse's, would putting dual exhaust hurt performance? is there a way i can make it a "true" dual exhaust?

and thanks for your replies duckydsp, keep em coming, i really appreciate it.

I know borla makes a dual exhaust but I think with eclipses you may be assed out unless you have it custom. In regards to performance, I am pretty sure it could go either way, depending on what you have done to your car.

LOL, i feel dumb for asking this, is "borla" a company? or a user on the forums? so i'd have to go custom to get dual exhaust kit? and could you be a little more specific with the performance going either way? would having a LOT done to the car as far as performance give an increase for dual exhaust? or none at all? or decrease?

another question (so many to ask)
can you get twin turbo on it? any advantages or disadvantages, (i'm trying to stay away from thinking 2 = more performance instead of 1.)

"the weight difference from a v6 to v4"

Hey buddy just so you know im not making fun of you, but its not a V4, its an I4...."Inline four" i dont think there is any 4cly shaped in a "V". So just though id help with! when its called a V6, V8, V10, etc. that means the cylinders are going through revolutions on an angle...like a "V"
