Hello everyone I hope someone here can help me determine what the problem with my car is, as our dodge dealer doesn't seem to be able to help.
I have a 2004 Neon 5 spd which will regularly bog on acceleration, I am not talking about a quick hesitation but a giant bog (as if someone cut the fuel off) which only goes away after 1 or 2 seconds of conitinous throttle application or pushing the clutch in and reving the motor through the bog. Sometimes the bog happens at freeway speeds after downshifting to a lower gear to accelerate around slower traffice, soemtimes it happens at city driving speeds. The worst bogs however are when re-accelerating from a rolling stop in 1st gear. There is no joy in a car that does not accelerate when crossing an intersection or after making a left hand turn( infront of oncoming traffic). Again holding the throttle down may or may not clear the bog, sometimes the car must be placed in neutral and revved up to clear the bog. We have had the Dodge dealers co-pilot installed and it showed no error conditions, and I am running out of rope, this bog has become a safety issue, I'd hate for my wife and kids to be in the car when it bogs at a busy intersection. I have also given up any ideas of having this fixed under warranty, I want this fixed and I will do it out of pocket. I really hope someone has some ideas, and again it is not a flat spot that the car can accelerate through but a major bog (like fuel is being shut off or no spark from the plugs). Thanks in advance. ps. I have changed spark plugs to no avail. Also the car has aprx 13000km on it which equates to about 8100 miles. |

I have a 96 sohc 5 speed and I had a problem like that but that would happen and also my cel would come on.. The mechanic said it was the air intake wires or someting like that shorting out. I did put the ractive intake in and i must of screwed something up. But it was defeinetly somethig with the air intake wires or something to do with the air intake. I dont know if this will help but i thought id tell you

Re: 2004 NEON HAS an intermittent bog/hesitation.
I've been thinking that it would be something electrical, but unlike you car the CEL never comes on in my pile of ****. I may have a look in the intake area and see if anything looks wrong, I may also disconnect some of the sensors and see if I can replicate the problem.
Thanks for the info. |

Sounds like a bad coil (maybe)

My 99 neon had the same problem but I got the cel, it decoded to 24 - TPS. Almost tossed me out the windshield when it happened. Ended up being the throttle position sensor. I have been driving 5 yrs with the tps seal folded up into the throttle body. Changed it and all is smooth.
