Actually, I believe that that is the turbo V8 engine from Honda's 1998-2000 CART race car.

Honda CART Engine Outline
Code Name: HR-1
Type: Liquid-cooled 32-valve DOHC V8 turbo-charged
Displacement: 2.65 liters
Engine Management: Honda Motorola
Fuel Injection: Honda PGM-FI
Ignition: Honda TDK CDI
Fuel: Methanol
Maximum Power: Over 800PS/Over 15,000rpm (under 37psi boost)

I've heard a lot of rumors about a V8 in the 2003 or 2004 NSX, but nothing about a turbocharger. And Honda is extremely tight lipped on the subject.

honda is also real anal about turbocharging their street cars... only the City and Dunk have had turbos, but only to up their anorexic NA power from 60hp to about 80hp.

And you would be correct sir (notice mounting plate at top of manifold for the series spec pop-off valve).

What's that? Something the refs use to make sure boost is within limits?

Yep, if manifold pressure exceeds the spec limit it vents out the excess through the top of the manifold. Look at that picture of the Penske car and notice the big cylindrical shape sticking out of the engine bay... that's the pop-off valve. it's also been the source of a lot of controversy in that series, from malfunctioning valves to very clever manifolding design to "hide" true pressure near the ports fromthe valve (which evidnetly was done by a few manufacturers, and though a bit shady did not really violate the rules at the time).

At the 02 ITR launch here is Australia, i got chatting to one of the dealers, and he did mention that the next NSX was going to have a v8. I can't honestly remember him saying if it will be turbo'd or not... but i'd personally expect it to be supercharged rather than turbo'd.
The dealer also speculated the NSX to be released in 03, but i'm not real sure about that, with it just under a year away, and not having seen/heard much more about it i'm not real confident of them meeting that date...

But then again, Honda have alwasy been typically tight-lipped about new models. i guess we'll see in time!
