Traction Light Question - yes another one!
Yes I know this appears to be a popular issue, but I have it narrowed down (I think!) and have a quick question. First of all I believe my no traction problem is due to a bad ABS hub speed sensor. Because the Traction light doesn’t always come on right away etc., etc. I’ve explained my problems here before. I just was wondering how I would go about finding which speed sensor it was. Is there anyway to tell? Or do I have to replace them both? Also, does anyone know approx. how much they run? Any help would be as usual greatly appreciated... :oÞ

Re: Traction Light Question - yes another one!
There is no way to find out what sensor it is without a scantool. What I did was I went on ebay and picked one up. Granted it was $500!!! But now I have it and anytime anything else goes wrong with my car, I have it. The ironic thing though is ever since I bought it, the check light has not come on again. Go figure. But I got a Snap-On 2500 scantool. Works great. It can diagnose pretty much any car if you have the proper chip installed in the scanner.

Re: Traction Light Question - yes another one!
If you really want to go out, get the Tech2 scanners. They are the same exact scanners that the GM dealers use. But then you will go from saying "holly cow $500 scanner" to "what a bargin for a $500 scanner." The tech2's are $2000!!!

Re: Traction Light Question - yes another one!
I thought only 2000+ Auroras were Tech2? Will it work the same on classic Auroras?

Re: Traction Light Question - yes another one!
There are two different protocols to look at when looking for scanners. They have OBDI and OBDII. 1996 is when the switched to OBDII. I am not sure if the Tech2s supported OBDI. I am not an expert in that. I just know that the dealers use Tech and Tech2 scanners. I don't know if there is any corrolation between Tech1 and Tech2, and OBDI and OBDII.
But GM actually supplies all of the diagnostic information to the company that makes Tech2 scanners. Snap-on has to reverse-engineer it to get the proper diagnostic information. So the Tech2 scanners are going to have much more reliable information. It is the same exact diagnostic information that a tech would see if you took it to a GM dealer. But the shop that I used to bring my car to (before I bought my scanner) used a snap-on 2500 scanner. So that is partially why I decided to buy the snap on. |

Re: Traction Light Question - yes another one!
I have a 97 GP GTP, and i have problems with the ABS. The solutions was:
I've cleaned with air compressor the ABC Sensor connectors of each wheel. And the problem dissapears. Try it first. Maybe you can solution the problem with 0$.
