Turn Signal Clicking - Solution to problem

I recently bought a used 2001 grand am and had the turn signal clicking problem talked about by others on this forum. I replaced the hazard mechanism (which makes the clicking) with no luck of getting rid of the random clicking. I found the problem when I took the turn signal and wipers mechanism off the steering column(which isn't that hard) and took the mechanism apart. Inside my part I found that too much grease had been put on the contact point for the turn signal switch such that the grease had dried between the gaps making an electronic connection when there shouldn't be one. Once I cleaned some of the dried grease from between the copper seperations and put it back together - the problem was fixed. You just have to make sure that when you put it back on the steering column that you align it with the other parts on the back of the steering wheel. I was frustrated by this problem and was happy to find out that this fixed it without having to buy a new part. If you need more information about it feel free to email me. [email protected] Just put "grand am fix" in the subject. Let me know if this helps any of you fix the problem.

Talking Fixed problem

Thanks for your post, it saved me from more frustration and the green stuff. It fixed my 2000 Grand Am and wasn't a big task. My hair is safe for another day.

Thank you so much. My so called mechanic told me it would cost around $ 500 to fix the problem. This I can do myself. Thanks!!!
