4 door rear speaker problem

In my 91 lx 4 door the carpet wasn't cut out in the back for the speakers but the holes were there so I cut out the carpet and got some speakers.
The problem is there's a bar for the trunk that runs right under the holes so the magnets from the speakers hit this bar.
Seems like an odd design to me..
I have 6 1/2's. What size did you guys get to fit back there if anything?

Re: 4 door rear speaker problem

6.5" speakers work back there but I had the same problem. My friend had 2 brand new 6.5" speakers he was going to give me that were really nice but they were too deep. You have to find speakers that aren't that deep, find some shallow ones. I ended up just getting some cheap-ass Wal-Mart Pioneer speakers. $30 for 2 speakers...only reason I changed the back ones is because one was blown...my fronts are still stock and runnin good, lol.

Re: 4 door rear speaker problem

i thought the speakers in the back were 6 1/2"s? And this bar youre talkin about, ive never seen it... Ill have to take a closer look. But you could do some custom work to make em fit.

the first thing you do is don't listen to him there are 2 things you can do. 1) go to your local stereo shop and buy some spacers for 6.5" OR 2) try and locate some stock rear pods

option #1 will be easier and cheaper

Re: 4 door rear speaker problem

Well I was lazy and just got shallow ones and didn't want to bother with spacers or anything, lol.

Re: 4 door rear speaker problem

All of us have this problem. I've heard you can actually bend that bar, but I don't know how well that work. The easiet, and probably best solution is the spacers. You can go to your local shop or if you have an old set of speakers laying around, cut the rim that goes around the cover and just use it.

i wanted to mount 6X9's in my sedan but i didn't want to cut through the rear tray, and if i did that bar would still be in the way. i mounted my speakers in the back seat. to either side of the section of the rear seat that folds down there is extra cushion. i thought it would give my car a different look and help out with the sound, and it did. you can easily cut into that section, mount speakers, and still have room for passengers in the back (if you want people back there). i'll try to post a picture to show how it looks.

Re: 4 door rear speaker problem

I ended up getting some pioneers that weren't very deep so they went in without hitting the bar.

Re: 4 door rear speaker problem

In my quest for audio, I said screw that bar and out it came. Then I got tired of holding my trunk open with one hand while trying to gather two cases of Coke out with the other, and used spacers. (I went from the pansy factory 6.5 to some polk 6x9's)
