Steering Knuckle repair
I have a bad U-joint in the steering knuckle.
It doesn't look to hard to replace in the manual. Is it a bigger job than I think? I just repacked the wheel bearings but didn't have the parts to fix the u-joint.

Re: Steering Knuckle repair
You talking about the knuckle in the tilt column???
Took me about 6 hours as a first timer. Probably could be done in 2 or 3 by an experienced pro. I also replaced all the bearings while I was in there. It's not a very difficult job, but you'd best pay attention to how everything comes out. Pay particular attention to the plastic slide for the dimmer switch and the rack. (I also replaced my rack which is a common wear item) It requires a lot of patience and a few special tools. Steering wheel puller, torx drivers, spring plate pressure release, small slide hammer. Be gentle with the wires in the column and pay attention to the routing. I used the GM manual, but it looks like Haynes has pretty good instructions also. |

Re: Steering Knuckle repair
Its the steering knuckle in the front axle. Next to the wheel bearings.
Although I think I have a bad u-joint in the steering column as it flops up and down a bit.
