Why does everyone argue about getting a PS2 or XBOX? Just buy both of em.... I didn't have to work too many hours to buy both either. This was back when were $300 a piece too and Im sure as hell don't have much money.

You can buy a used PS2 for ~$70 if money is tight though. Several places sell them with a warranty too, so if it fails you get another one.

Exclamation It can be fixed ya know.

What is the exact problem with your PS2? You just cannot jump to conclusion that it is broken already. For example, when my PS2 had the disc read error I looked up the way to fix it, opened it up and adjusted the gear that levels the laser eye. When it had problems reading again, I of coarse did that again, and again and again, to only find that the eye was a little dusty. And if you bought it at a place such as Babages, Software Ect, Electronic Boutique or EBX, you can return there and get credit for a new unit while they fix yours up and resell it as a used.

So before declaring your PS2 totally broken, check on the net to see what your problem is and find the solution, or it could even be something as basic as a dirty laser eye.

ok here are the problems:
It absolutely will not read the game unless you turn the unit on, open the tray, put in the CD, then turn the unit off, then on again. this is the only way i can get it to work.

It doesnt play DVDs. at all. when i try to play one, the screen starts jumping and fading from dark to light, and the movie doesnt start.

i dont care much about the DVD, but ill look for a solution to the reading problem.

Re: My PS2 is broken

dude your laser is going. Sony actually does this on purpose so people will rebuy there shit. Thats the main reason why alot of companys including Capcom dont want to do games on a sony platform. THe same laser problems are also associated wtih there personal cd players. THey use cheaper peices on purpose so people will rebuy. Since the ps2 is the # system in the world they can do this all they want. But the problem mainly occurs with the older models. I for one got one of the very first ps2's here in the states. Mines running on a limp. It clunks everytime it reads a cd and I had to litterally Hit it to aline the laser again. I havent had any problems since lol. But its only a matter of time. I wont ever play Rpgs on it any more in fear of it freezing up after 4 str8 hours of gameplay.
