Question 92 civic Engine swap Question

First off I have 2 cars : '92 honda civic lx (4 Dr. Auto)
'91 Subaru Legacy ( 5 speed Manual)

Could I take engine & Tranny from Subaru, gut civic and turn into a manual. If so how hard or what would it take to do that?

Re: 92 civic Engine Switch Question

you can do anything you can imagine. But you're going to have to get a LOT of fabrication done to get the motor in and working properly. Maybe try to find a shop that will do it for you; but it'll cost you an arm and a leg. Just get a manual civic tranny and do the conversion; there are a lot of threads on that subject http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/search.php?

I forgot about the subaru being 4 weel Dr.
But, If I found a civic Manual tranny would it work with the engine from the subaru? ( will motor mounts match up & will it link up to engine?)

Is a conversion from auto to manual something worth attempting?
Thanks for the info!

Re: 92 civic Engine Switch Question

I hope you are loaded with cash. Nothing in that swap will be drop in and go, everything is going to have to be custom fabricated.

Re: 92 civic Engine Switch Question

Oh i didn't mean swap in the tranny onto the subaru engine, I ment keep the engine you got now and just swap the manual civic tranny on there. GScivic7's right; it's completely custom shit and it'll probably never even run the way it should. There is a HUGE article at the top of the '92+ Civic forum that has info on all the swaps that are do-able without major fabrication. But swapping from auto to manual would be worth it if you're willing to do the work or pay someone to do it. My buddy did it in his 4dr and it turned out nice. His reverse lights don't work cause he decided he didn't want to take the time to hook it up. And he's also able to start his car without having to push in the clutch, that i don't know if there is a fix for.

Unhappy

I wish I was loaded W/ cash! I was more or less just desprate for anything to work. Cant get the honda running and no one that I know knows what the hell they are doing(not that I do). I just put in a new head gasket, starter, replaced all cooling related probs. , water pump ,timeing should be fine ,it turns over but does not start.I dont want to keep dealing w/ stupid stuff just to have a car. I have read that this engine is a piece anyway. I cant afford a swap so not shure what to do.Thanks for the help anyway.
