When idling, the engine "surges". I thought it was a dead plug at first, but I changed them all and they're fine. When I igve the engine gas -- regardless of how little -- it runs perfectly. The engine "surges" so badly that it'll even die out sometimes, and when putting it in gear it tends to die.
Is there some type of idle control switch that could be causing this? Is it just the timing? Please help. |

First thing to do is to have any trouble codes that are stored in the EEC-IV read.
This will point you in the right direction. Your local Autozone, or Schuck's, will read the codes for free. |

Re: '94 Taurus irregular idle.
Box, could you let me know when you find a solution to that problem you are having. I have the same problem and have not fixed it yet. It has mysterious gone away but I think its coming back.

Re: '94 Taurus irregular idle.
Hey all.
You might have an idle control solinoid going bad. I am not that up on that year Taurus. On our newer 97 and up trucks with 4.6 and 5.4 engines i have seen this often. They may set a code, but most do not. I do not recomend cleaning, just replace. Good luck. |
