GM aproved upgrades??

I'm trynig to find out if there is some company that GM aproves of for mods/upgrades, like Mopar is to Dodge, that will not void your warantee.

Re: GM aproved upgrades??

only if SLP does it before the car is sold. the answer here is NONE. no aftermarket modification will be "approved of" by GM tellin ya as a Chevy tech assistant.

Re: GM aproved upgrades??

Chevy blows!!!!!! Hey, IROC, what can I do, can I mod the car and then if I ever take it to the dealership for something, just put it back to stock before I go?? Also, I bought the car with an Intake lid, MTI to be exact, so technically isn't my waranty already gone.

Re: GM aproved upgrades??

thats what the warranty says on my ss, slp must
install it on the car before it is bought in order
to be included in the warranty. any additional
bolt ons, computers modifications will void the warranty.
and what model are we talking about? mines a 2000
my 3 years are up, its only got 16,000 miles on it ,
and i bought it new with 11 miles on it. the warranty was 3 years
or 60,000 miles. i used the recomended oil, and took it to the
dealer for them to change it. but it has never broken down
so i never used the warranty

Re: GM aproved upgrades??

Phone the dealer or who ever the warrenty is through, and ask them.. They usually will let some things go, if they are dealer or professionally installed..

From SEMA: With regard to aftermarket parts, the gist of the law is that warranty coverage cannot be denied simply because such parts are present on the vehicle, or have been used .The warranty coverage can be denied only if the aftermarket part caused the malfunction or damage for which warranty coverage is sought.

Goto the link and read the whole article and the attatchment..... Take it to the dealer if you ahve to.

Re: GM aproved upgrades??

basicly how it works. is the parts will only void the warranty of anything they touch. for instance, the intake lid and all that, if its a cold air setup, say your engine hydrolocks, well, you dont get a free engine, cuz that aftermarket intake may have allowed moisture into the engine causing the problem. or any driveablity concerns will not be covered underwarrante because of the lid. but say, your window stops working, that will still be covered by warantee. as for the strut tower and suspension stuff, same applies. if your shocks go bad, or alignment goes out, bearings bust, anything related to steering goes bad, wont be covered. but if your rear end burns up, it will still be covered. so its not like your entire warantee disapears when you change something. its just if anything it effects goes bad, youre paying out of pocket.

Re: GM aproved upgrades??

I see, so will a Borla exhaust be reason to lose my waranty on the enigne... and IROC, if I buy this exhaust, and sonething goes wrong, can't I just take it down, and bolt up the original before I bring the car to Chevy???

Re: GM aproved upgrades??

lol, yeah if you wanna be trickey you can take off the aftermarket stuff, and put the stock stuff back on. but what if by some reason the aftermarket stuff does break it. so you fix it to stock, put the aftermarket on and it breaks again but no i dont think an exhaust will effect your engine waranty.

Re: GM aproved upgrades??

funny thing about all this is for the exhaust i had to cut the pipe that went from the cat to the muffler. granted i was just being a lazy ass, but unless you have a lift i dont think you can pull that piping out without the old hacksaw, but maybe im just really lazy...

Re: GM aproved upgrades??

We'll have to see, oh, and IROC, can you do me a BIG FAVOR???? Since you work for chevy can you find out for me w/o a doubt what mods, say exhuast, intake, will void it and what wont, cause the dealership by my house said anything, but for all I know they don't have a clue what they are talking about. For some reason most people that answer the phone for businesses usually don't have any idea what they're talking about.

Re: GM aproved upgrades??

lol. well to be honest, i think they are right, but the final say is up to the tech working on your car. if hes really anal, he can say that any mod related to the engine could have disrupted the plazma flow to your flux capasitor and that blew the engine. when all you did was put a K&N air filter in it (just an example) or you could have a full out aftermarket exhaust system on it and cold air intake, but he could know a blown bearing caused by an intake leak when he sees it, and will conceid that it is a warranty item cuz its an OEM failure not caused by your mods. so it really depends on the tech you get. but i think according to GM just about everything non factory installed is fair game for voiding the waranty.
