What to do with my 93 del sol?

My parents bought a 93 del sol Si for me as transportation for school. 168,000 miles I think it has original everything, except tail lights, tires, and muffler type things. At the time of purchase we had never heard of the del sol. How would I know if it were worth up grading to take to college in LA? It doesn't have much power, so LA freeways, could be a problelm. Any ideas? thanks.

Re: What to do with my 93 del sol?

I'm resisting the urge to lock this thread. I broke 110 in my S model, and I've been up above 130 in my current DOHC VTEC model, so don't say you can't get power outta them. Never had a problem in ATL traffic. You can always give it to me and I'll make it fast... and probably keep it...

Re: What to do with my 93 del sol?

The Del Sol Si makes decent power for a Honda motor, and just because it isn't 240hp or whatever doesn't mean it can't handle heavy traffic. They're also lighter than a lot of cars so they're pretty quick with the available power. Just drop it by Honda to get a maintenance done, and go drive it and get used to it. I've been up to about 130mph in my Del Sol and have been driving it in heavy Atlanta traffic for about a year without problems. Most of the time people are moving out of my way.

And since you asked for suggestions, here's my first one:
Put the stock taillights back on. Looks better.

Re: What to do with my 93 del sol?

Thanks for the info. Apparently I need to have someone who knows what they're doing work on it and get it up to its potential. Living in a small AZ town- not all mechanics are up to speed on this. It really doesn't drive with any kind of power, so something must be wrong.I just need to find out what to do about it.

Re: What to do with my 93 del sol?

Del Sols don't have alot of torque; so it doesn't FEEL as fast as say an older Maxima, but it IS. Torque determines how much you get pushed back to your seat. Higher horsepower doesn't necesarily mean it will feel any faster. Anyhow, a majority of the easier performance upgrades (like conical air intake or a performance exhaust system) you can do sacrifices lower end torque for upper end power.

What this means is that at lower RPM's, you won't *feel* as much go to it, but when you get to higher RPM's you will fly much quicker. There are not many cheap mods that can give you torque; most come from expensive high end engine work like boring/stroking, or a turbocharger.

If you can stuff a nuclear reactor into the engine bay and have it work, I'll be your house maid for a year.

Be serious people.
