Sorry..Mitsu question but I need help and that forum is slooooooooooow
My dad messed up his ignition timing on accident. He was replacing his water pump and must have accidently turned a pulley or something.
Anyways...we can't figure it out and my dad sort of needs his truck (lol). For work and trivial things like that ![]() So..can someone help me? The motor is a longitudinal 2.4L SOHC I4 (engine code 4G64) help!

Did he touch the timing belt, what does the engine do?
It would be easier to help with more details. |

The belt is fine.....i have no idea how it sounds.
It's like the timing was advanced or retarded...not sure....

Why don't you find a haynes(or the like) manual and correctly set the ignition timing? It is very easy to do with a few metric tools and a timing light.

If it doesn't,you could loosen the distributor bolts and turn it one way or the other till it starts and then do the timing. Also, was it running properly before you worked on the engine? A 4g63 is the same as the Talon, and to replace the water pump, you need to remove the t.belt. And if the belt is not put on correctly there's danger for the valves to make contact with the pistons. |

Well..it's a 4G64
not 4G63 (no turbo no DOHC )But anyways - we're looking into getting a timing light whenever we get the chance. Thanx guys.
