90 Prelude Si
I just bought a 90 Si but it just had the timing belt fly off of it. What kinda trouble is this going to be to fix. I know the head has to come off. Is that really a hard job? I don't even have the car yet. I have to go pick it up in a few days and put it on a trailer. Do you have to change the water pump too? I put a head gasket on a late 80's Tercel a few years ago. Is this going to be a similar job?

Re: 90 Prelude Si
Timing belt changes aren't hard... they just have alot of steps (and as such are time consuming). I would find a Helms service manual to help you out.

Re: 90 Prelude Si
I can do a belt for sure but this one has some bent valves and I was wondering how hard it is going to be to get the head off? I'm going to pick it up tomorrow after work.
Thanks! Rob |

In my opinion it would be easier to get a different head rather than replace the valves. It shouldnt be very hard to change the head. It will take some time though

Re: 90 Prelude Si
Try this for a manual http://www.icelord.net/honda/repair/ click the small link at the top of the page that says icelord.net you can download your manual and then read it on your computer. You cpuld even print out a couple of pages if you needed something to take to the garage with you instead of running back into the house to the computer.

Re: 90 Prelude Si
Hey, thanks for the link to the manual. I downloaded it and printed out some of the pages. I got the car and it is in super shape for the year except for this bent valves. I got started on it over the weekend but didn't get very far. I have just been unhooking stuff and draining antifreeze and stuff. Got the alternator and ps pump off and all the exhaust bolts out of the manifold. Looks like I will need to take it apart where the pips bolts to the manifold to get it off of there. Looks like it is going to be a time consuming job for sure.
Rob ps...any hints on taking this apart would be greatly appreciated! |

Re: 90 Prelude Si
Still slowly taking it apart when I have time. Luckly this is our 4th car so I don't have to have it going soon. I can't wait to drive it though. Does anyone know if the intake has to be unbolted before the head comes off or can it come off attached to the head? I can't tell from the manual?

Re: 90 Prelude Si
It don't look like I can get the bottom bolts. Is there a trick?
