Increasing Jettas power

Heh, Ive gotta '94 jetta and I was wondering, what is the best way to increase power? I have been thinking of installing a Supercharger, but some say Turbos are a better way to go, so I just wanted to ask some the guys who know.

I have also been lokkin at some body Kits and I might go with a West Wings Touring, but im not sure yet.

buddy, buy a new car. you are not gonna get amazing horsepower out of a jetta, it you do it's only gonna end up lasting you for one day, I've got a 2000 vr6 and it's gutless.
if you want real power then get a v8 car like a camaro or mustang, that'll blow the doors off any vw with a little tuning. throw a super or turbo on a v8 and you will destroy most vehicles on the road.. so don't even waste time trying to change a vehicle that is meant for fuel economy.

V8 powered cars are great for going fast...As long as you only want to go in a straight line. But if you actually live someplace other than LA La land where all the roads are straight then the Jetta is great. Nothing like it on a winding moutain road. And you won't need to have a portable oil refinery in your trunk Jettas are easily upgrade to get more horsepower. No you will never have as much as a camaro or mustang. But max HP is not the real test of speed now is it? The lighter weight more agile Jetta is the car I would choose anytime.

cali obviously you have never driven a v8 car.. i would like to see a jetta outperform a new camero or mustang is a s-curve test. those cars are built for twisty turns.. your right about weight but wrong about how much lighter the jetta is compared to a mustang.. it's only a couple hundred pound difference, not enough to warrant sacraficing
100-200 hp.
well anyway you look at it, you don't know what you are talking about.
i'm not saying the jetta is bad, i'm just saying if the guy wants good horsepower, then he's gonna have to find it in a different car.
jetta's are made for fuel economy.
even if i fixed up my vr6 it would still get slammed by a stock mustang...do the math.

You know what? maybe He doesn't want a V8... Ever think of that? I respect that you are fighting for a dying cause, but face it, V8's just arent as desirable as they used to be... And for the ones that are, they are located under a different forum, so how bout you go there and tell some of your experience to those people, where it will be useful.

And also, redhawk is not asking for your opinion on what car to buy, he already has taken care of that, so how about you read what people are asking here and answer the question with a real answer, not this "get a V8" BS. we obvoiusly don't want V8's, and don't care about how wonderful they are. We want to know how to modify our 4 or 6 cylinder cars. So If you are so "experienced" then offer some real advice on performance mods and stop bashing our rides...
We know that V8's are faster stock, wonderful!!! But that is not the question here. so stop stating the obvious, we've heard it a million times.

well get with the program.. it is impossible to produce 9 seconds jettas that are street legal, quit thinking it's real
well all know if you make a funny car it's not really the same car anymore becuase it's so modded so that doesn't really count. those must me what you are looking at and thinking it's a normal jetta.
if you haven't noticed they have roll cages, run alcohol, and use about 20:1 compression after its all said and done.

it's hardly a car any more.. the fastest street jetta i've (or anyone) have ever heard of was around the mid 13's thats reality

Re: Increasing Jettas power

Ok, so are the 9 second V8 cars street legal??? If you are running less then 11's you have to install a roll cage... That kid is running a stock VR6 with mods. not some specially built motor that is race only...

Exclamation

Well now isn't this something a guy asks about modding his car,and gets a response that he should by something with a V* ....oooooohhhh V8 ? Why stop there? Why not a v 12? Or better yet a turbine engine?

Jettaboy is correct in his assumtion that most 9 second cars are probably not "street legal" . Loud pipes may save lives but cops hate them. Slicks not to good for conering. And thyen again there is the fuel that is needed to run 9 seconds. It isn't available at the local AM/PM Sure you can get high octane gas that is legal. But at what cost?

The kid just wanted to know what to do to his 94 Jetta. He came here for some help and all he got was some dumbass telling him how much better a V8 would be.

Oh yeah and Smokincrack or what ever your name is I have driven plenty of V8 Powered vehicles. None of which I would trade for my 96 Jetta....Although those German assholes could have put in a glove box.

i am assuming you have a 2.0 8v? you could invest in the neuspeed supercharger, but for the price, there are a bunch of reasonable turbo kits out there. start with the simple stuff first, like intake, exhaust and chip. there are a ton of really good VW exhuasts out there, like autotech, neuspeed, techtonics tuning, etc. dont settle for a generic one. you should check out forums.vwvortex.com. but be careful not to step in the stinky stuff there. do your research. also, if you want a quick car, stay away from the body kits, they only add extra weight. hope that helps.

Hey V8 internet tuff guy, you really need to spend some time learning about other cars besides your V8. I have a 24V VR6 with basic mods, CAI, CAMS, Exhaust, Chip, suspension, dogbone, polyurethane bushings on control arm and rear sway bar. I smoke GT mustangs all day long. How come last year a V6 BMW won the touring car championship ove V12's and V8's. I wonder why that is if a V8 is faster than everything on this earth.

Re: Re: Increasing Jettas power

Hey i just got a jetta vr6, and despite a few small problems (a/c and cruise only work when the want too). I LOVE it. and i want to make it fast. so back to the original question, i don't have a lot of cash and dont' think i can get into the technical areas to make it faster...what are a few of the cheapest ways to cut seconds?. also...enough of the v8's....most are rear wheel drive and made for show not for fun and fast cornering. my friend drives a modified trans am and corvette, and although they're fun and pretty fast, i'll keep my vr6
