Exclamation 350 Engine Problem*****

I have a 1963 Impala with a 350 Powergluide V-8. Say I'm at a complete stop and if I hit the gas hard(pedal all the way down) the engine makes a "pop" noise and the car will stall. Does anyone know why its doing this!!!!!??? I think I have a carburator problem. My neighbor said he thinks that I have a blown Power Valve. and another thing that my be the cause of this is that I do not have a kickdown on my engine. PLEASE HELP!!!!!! THNKS!!!!!!

He's talking about the ignition timing. To adjust this you will need a timing light, dwell meter and a 9/16" distributor wrench. A repair manual will tell you everything that you need to know a bout adjusting the timing. If this doesn't solve the problem then you should probably look into rebuilding your carburetor.

How many miles on the engine?

The only effect of a missing kick down will be that your car will feel sluggish when you try to pass on the freeway or if you smash the gas pedal.

make sure the accelerator pump in the carb is working, with the engine off if you open the throttle valve all the way it should spray fuel out. do you have a Holley carb?? if not you probably don't have a powervalve.
