98 suburban, clicking noise in reverse
I have a '98 Suburban 4WD, last week I started hearing a clicking noise when I go in reverse. Sounds like it is coming from the rear axle area. I don't hear the sound when going forward. Any ideas?

Re: 98 suburban, clicking noise in reverse
How many miles on the truck? Could it be a U-joint? Are your brakes disk or drum? Self adjusting? What kind of clicking noise? Metallic or other kind?

The suburban has just over 104K miles and I believe the brakes are disc rather than drum. I have no idea on whether it could be a u-joint - I can change the oil and the tires and that's about it. It's hard to say, just from the sound, whether the clicking is metallic or something else. If I had to guess, I would say that its metallic. A friend mentioned something about a universal joint possibly needing to be greased. Any thoughts you have on what the sound might be would be appreciated.

Re: 98 suburban, clicking noise in reverse
Hi
I know I'm about 10 years too late on this BUT In case anyone else runs across this.....I would say It's the Rear Differential. It would be a metallic sound and the "click" would only occur while shifting into reverse.
