Engine Swap - computer/wiring issues
I have a '99 F-150 4.2 liter V-6. I have a fuel injected 460 and E40D tranny out of a '96 F-250 that i would like to put in my F-150. Does anyone know how to handle the computer issues involved in the swap? I know that both trucks have the EEC-V computer, the '96 is a version 1.0 and the '99 is a version 2.0. I've contacted Painless Wiring and Fuel Injection Specialties, so far I haven't been able to come up with a solution. I want to keep the EFI. I was told that the air bags and cruise control are also computer controlled, I'd like to keep them functional - and then there's the transmission... Could I run a stand alone system for the fuel injection/engine and maintain everything else on the stock computer? Any suggestions?

Re: Engine Swap - computer/wiring issues
well, i would say get the PCM out of the 96. Might need the wiring harness also, going to be fun expirience.

Big problem here dude. Hope you don't have to worry about emissions where you are because this swap would not be legal since the 460 was never available in the F-150 after 1979. Second, Your F-150 is OBD-II and your 460 is not. The F-150 has way more wiring and other relays the the 460 donor vehicle did. The F-150 esentially would have t be downgraded to a '96. Third, you'll have to come up with a custom oil pan/oiling system as the front suspension and crossmember were changed in '97.
