I have a similar knocking noise when I turn left. It also knocks when I go straight (after the left turn). What is this noise? My mechanic can't find it.
Thanks! |

Re: Knocking noise when turning left
What year?
It could be from the sway bar bushings. -Ryan

Re: Re: Knocking noise when turning left
It's a 1994 Rodeo automatic. The knocking noise is almost in sync with the rotation of the wheel and comes from the RIGHT passenger side. If I press on the accelerator, I hear the knocking. If I let my foot off, it stops.

Re: Knocking noise when turning left
4X4? If so a bad CV would cause this.

I just read this article on noise and CV joints http://randrautoservice.com/service%...htm#cv%20boots
and you're probably right. Since there's a noise on the left turn it appears to be the right joint/boot. This site's advice is to replace the entire axle. Thanks for the help and I'll update to let you know what it was. Pam |

Now I'm told that it can't be the CV joint bcse the noise wouldn't come from the rear. Oh, well...

Re: Knocking noise when turning left
You never said it was coming from the rear, that makes a big difference.

Re: Knocking noise when turning left
You're right (I was thinking back right passenger). Any ideas?

The mechanic said it was everything in the rear: bearings, pin, shims, side gear, etc. Says it'll be about $1600.
Anything else I should have them check while I'm there (eg timing belts) at 85k miles? Thanks. |
