daylight running lights

The DRL's have gone out on my 1996 silverado. I have checked the fuse and it is ok. I am guessing its the bulbs themselves but havent been able to find them. Are they part of the headlight?

Re: daylight running lights

They are the regular low-beam bulb.

Re: daylight running lights

sounds like the drl relay or sensor is bad. As long as you still have headlights I wouldn't worry.

Re: daylight running lights

yea, i doubt it is a sensor since that year truck isnt equiped with light sensing sensors. Do you you know where the DRL relay is? I just like the convenience of the DRLs. THanks for you help

Re: daylight running lights

GM 98 full size truck (probably same for 96-99 C/K). There is a cigarette pack sized finned black heat sink (this is a double diode, 2 volt drop) located near the steering column, under the dash.

That is where the DRL "brain" is I guess..If the relay is like my 99, it is in the under hood fuse block.

Check the DRL fuse. If the fuse is bad, the headlights will work with the switch, but no DRL. (It's under the hood, labeled DRL) This is also a convenient DRL bypass on up to 98 trucks or 99 burban/tahoe, just pull the fuse!

Re: daylight running lights

i dont have a fuse labeled DRL under the hood. There is a box on drivers side towards the back of the engine compartment that has some fuses. I do have a fuse box in the driver's side of the dashboard between the door the the side of the dash. Anyway, it is fine!! I did have the DRL come on for a half hour or so and then went out again. I think i have a loose wire.

Yea, my bad. I went back and checked, and the fuse is on the side of the dash. oops Also, I *THINK* the DRL on the trucks up through 98 goes out when the parking brake is on. Is the dash light for the parking brake lit up? (i'm thinking a bad switch or wire, maybe)
