Ferrari 250SWB & 166MM/195S by Hiro??
Hi there!
Does anyone know these two resin kits by Modelfactory Hiro? I know there are six versions of the 250 SWB, three early type and three later type version. Does anyone know the difference? Are these kits woth the money ($200), are they really so much better than an Italeri 250 SWB? What about the three versions of the 166MM or 195S Berlinetta Touring? Does anyone know these new kits by Modelfactory Hiro? I know MG Models make a curbside kit of this car as well. But Hiro is fully detailed; so, is this one worth the money? Thanks for your thoughts, Marc |

Re: Ferrari 250SWB & 166MM/195S by Hiro??
I have a couple of friends who have them. The difference in the 250SWB kits is just decal variations.
The kits are very nice and highly detailed but contain many white metal parts which are a pain in the arse to work with. As to whether the Hiro 250SWB is $150 better than Italeri is up to the buyer/builder. To me the Italeri is plenty nice. I would rather see Hiro do more unusual Ferrari subjects than ones that have been done decently in plastic.

I own both kits, and they are VERY nice. Like Brian said, the value is up to the builder, I think they are not worth $200 price tag, but they are still the nicest kits of both cars I've ever seen. Each kit has A LOT of parts, nice decals, crisp bodies. The difference between later and earlier type SWB is in decals and window frames (different shape on early model) and rear window, plus some minor details. The difference between 166MM kits is decals. I have review or 166MM Barchetta kit on my site, as well as several other Hiro kits, check it out if interested. I plan on posting SWB review shortly.

Thanks for the info, Alex & Brian!
But what about the latest kit, the 166MM or 195S Touring Berlinetta? There is no plastic kit of that car, is there? Other than MG Models, I haven't heard of anything else. But you're right and we discussed this before, some other kits would be nice! 330 GTC would be my favourite! But since Hiro has now started with a 250, maybe they'll continue and bring us at least a 250GTE? We'll see... All the best, Marc PS: Alex, of course, I know your excellent web site and check it very, very often! Simply amazing, what you do!! |
