Auto Trans Synthetic changeover....
I searched and didnt find anything, so if its been covered i really do appologize. My buddy Sean has A 92 240, auto. Lots of miles on the tranny(185,000), re-built 91 engine thow. Drives and runs damn near mint. We both agree synthetic trans fluid is a good idea. I know *some* foreign cars you dont really need to change the filter on the trans when you drain the fluid. Is this one of them? Id like to avoid dropping the pan casue its a bit of a pain in the rear, thow the drain plug makes it easier (ever do the fluid on a GM hydramatic?) If you recommend doing the filter thow ill do it. Also the book says 9qts fuid per change, that seems like a lot but i dont really do much work on RWD cars so i dunno...so I was thinking changing it every oil change for 3 changes...should this be enough to get like 95% of the old stuff out?
Also...tranny cooler? Worth the money? Many thanks guys. Keith EDIT: yeah my bad..that 9QTS is with Tq converter included...sounded like a lot, anyway should 3 changes be good enough? |

TRANNY COOLER IS A GREAT ADDITION!
it will keep the temps down on your transmission, hence it will last longer, especially under heavy strains. Thats something a lot of people don't even know about or even think about doing.... Synthetic fluid is ok on the transmission, its expensive as shit but will last longer and when its past the regular 3,000 oil change mark it will still look nice and clean. Which is good. Not nessecary though, regular inspection and changing of the fluid with cheap stuff is just as good. You cannot change your fluids in your car too much. |
