Question Cobra Jet motor?

I just picked up a 1970 T-bird for a good price from a friend's tow yard, it kind of had a hard time getting back to the shop, so I did a compression test on the engine. There was 225 pounds in each cylinder. That's 11:1 compression. I tried to get the block casting number off the engine, but it looks like it was a wrecking yard motor because there was another stamp on top of the original; making it impossible to read the original stamp. What should I do?

Re: Cobra Jet motor?

If you call a dealership and give them your vin # they will be able to look it up and tell just about what ever you want to know.

Re: Cobra Jet motor?

But they won't know if the original owner put a different motor in the car. That's the problem. I know the motor that is in there did not come with the car

Re: Cobra Jet motor?

They may be able to tell you where you can find a number on the motor itself that will tell you what the motor is. I hope maybe I can find out for you if you can give me some details about the motor I will ask some people.

Re: Cobra Jet motor?

The air cleaner says 429, the valve covers say Powered by Ford, but the block and heads have OK stamped in yellow, and the original casting stamp on the front, passenger side has been stamped over with what looks like QJ135449 or OJ135449 the 3 could also be 5, hard to tell. I appreciate your help!
