Talking Too Much Paint!!....Or Is IT!?

Hey guys. Today I bought a slick dremel tool kit with 145 pieces at wal-mart for 20bux. I used the 1/4'' sanding drum in the supplied kit to sand out a larger hole indention on my Zexel R32, and I also got an itch to do another. Anyway, it will have dual exhaust. Now, to the point. At wal-mart I purchased Color Place 15oz. equiptment grey primer for 94 cents, Color Spray 15oz. gloss white enamel for $1.67, and Color Spray 15oz. clear enamel for $1.67. I applied the primer two nights ago, and wet sanded to get rid of the roughness, and then applied about half of the can of white enamel in mist coats over the car body, the wheels, and the engine bay. Anyway. Most of the paint went on the car. It still looks a little dark. I plan to apply the rest of this can, and maybe some of another can of white to this sucker. Then, apply the whole can of clear to the body, wheels, engine bay, and undercarriage. These are 15ounce cans. My question is, since sometimes this clear has had a week to harden and still leaves small wrinkles from your finger, how long should I wait till I polish it out? I would follow p-mans thread for the paint and polish, but that's for tamiya lacquers, and this is wal-marts enamel...

...so, what do you think, would you like pics?

Re: Too Much Paint!!....Or Is IT!?

Pics please. Sounds like an awful lot of paint. Enamels dry even more slowly than lacquers. And with that much of it, well, that'll probably take a really long time.

Re: Too Much Paint!!....Or Is IT!?

I'll snap some tomorrow. It's raining wicked hard, so no chance of having a descent pic. My camera needs battery charging any way. I might stick the body inthis old microwave for about 2-4weeks, I just am soo close to being done!

Re: Too Much Paint!!....Or Is IT!?

+1 at least go to Schucks or AutoZone and pick up Dupli Color (edit: WalMart should sell this paint too in automotive section)

Ok, you see this type of post. ^^ This is for people who know squat about building a model car. Tamiya, Mr. Gunze, all those expensive paints don't work any better than the wal-mart paints. We all know about testors bad reputation. All I can say about that is I personally know people who take what you call ''shit n' a can'' and make even better paint jobs than what a person can do with tamiya...this is WITHOUT polish between coats, and misting, and clear coating.

You obviously know squat about paint. As far as duplicolor goes, well, they are enamel paints too. They aren't any better than what's in that Color Spray can. Before you say any more about what kind of paint I use, and how, "It's cheap, spend a little more, get better paint jobs" and all your bullshit. STFU. And, I'm not trying to be an ass...but you need to be put in your place. If your gona come back with this defending cheap paint shit, ponder this for a while...I've been building models since I was 8 years old. I've probably used more paint techniques and paint type mix matches than you can think of at this minute you read this post. I'm sorry, but you've simply proved your ignorance in this, and your CF post about how shitty and I qoute "Scale Auto Stuff" which is Scale Auto Style is. I can vouch for how good it is. I've seen it used enough to know. You're just too simple minded to understand a real work of perfection when you see it...

I have nothign more to say...

and, will, I'm uploading some semi-dark pics to cardomain right now.

Josh...yes it was engine paint. That's not the point tho.

Hope they're clear enough. I also find with this paint if I get ANY orange peel (which I hardly do, hmm, must be because it's so CHEAP) you can't see any of it. This is after the first four coats (not misted BTW) and wetsanded with 1500 and will be shot at least two more times wetsanded again with 1500, then gloss coated several times, and wetsanded 2k grit, then turtle waxed 3 times.

Re: Too Much Paint!!....Or Is IT!?

The chasis looks nice. But hard to tell on the body, pic not so clear.

You used half of the 15oz can of white on the car?? That's alot!!!! I paint ~2 car per tamiya can. That 15oz can paint like 5 car!!

This isn't true i'm afraid - cheap paint will yield a cheap result. If you can achieve an acceptable level of finish with department store paint, then you would likely be able to achieve an excellent finish with a higher quality product.
