A few questions

Im 16 and Im thinking about getting a bike. I live in Ohio and if you're under 18 you first get a temp lisence. Does anyone know the limitations on the those? Also, what is the insurance like compared to cars? Finally, are they hard to learn how to ride?

Thanks.

Re: A few questions

A learners permit for a motorcycle only requires you not to drive at night, no passengers and no freeway driving.

And insurance... well, that is where it hurts.

Re: A few questions

Not positive about Ohoho, but PA requires a helmet on the permit, and you must be "within shouting distance" of someone who is licensed on a motorcycle. It's also restricted like 96Civ said.

Re: A few questions

Im from Ohio...

Here are the details on our permit:
You cant ride on heavy traveled roads.
You must wear a helmet. (For one year after you get your license.)
You cannot carry a passenger.
You cannot ride at night.

I believe thats it. Since your under the age of 18, I believe you are elligable to a free MSF beginners course. Definately take it! You must have your permit to take the class though.

Go to the BMV and get your books and packet. Make sure you get two books, the Ohio laws book, and the motorcycling book. The permit test covers both. Make sure you study the drug and alcohol portion aswell. There are questions on the test. Once you have studied the books, go take your written test to get your permit. www.msf-usa.org

I recommend starting out on a Ninja 250R or if your a bigger buy a Ninja 500R or a GS500E/F. If you have anymore questions feel free to ask.
