Anyone know what would swap into a 1993 Corolla? I was thinking a 1993 Celica 4AFE 1.6 Liter maybe. I just want something with a little more support in the performance department from aftermarket companies and TRD. Thanks.
It's a really frustrating with the lack of support for that generation of Corollas. I like my little C-Rolla.

Re: 4afe swap
if you're gonna do that put in a 7A-FE...the 7A block has more aftermarket parts available and its a 1.8L engine as opposed to the 1.6 in the base model Rolla from that year. if you have a DX or LE just put a GE head on the thing and keep the 7A block in there. if anything, the 4A-FE will hurt performance.

Re: 4afe swap
Your both tripping. 4AGE all the way. Or 4AGZE or the 20V if your really after some performance.

I think I might go with a 4AG. I read somewhere that on a 7A-FE with a GE head (7A-GE), the powerband falls at 6800rpm due to weak internals. Not that it matters because 1) I don't intend to do THAT much racing and 2) the 7A-GE gets better torque than the 4A-GE. I'm just worrying about the internals because I may or may not turbo it later on, haven't decided.

Re: 4afe swap
If you want forced induction of any kind, get a 4AGZE for sure.

What about a 7MGTE? Not sure how well that would fit, though...

Re: 4afe swap
Wouldn't fit, would fuck the handling and you would need upgraded brakes on top of everything else.
The answer to all your questions is 4AGZE.

I thought 93 models came with 4AFE already. U.S. AE101 has the 4AFE. 7M-GTE is a RWD engine, which would also require you spending lots of $$$ and not worth it. There's no FWD drivetrain that would mate to the 7M-GTE. 4AGZE with a manual shift is the way to go.. Good luck...

Re: 4afe swap
I've been doing lots of web browsing the past few days. I'm looking for a website that will just list out the (what seems like) millions of different engines and what the differences are.
Meaning 4AFE, what do those stand for and what are the specs compared to the 4AGZE, 7MGTE, etc. etc. Then, I wanna know what fits into what car. And what exactly would I need to be looking for? Sorry for the ignorance. |

Here's a site to better understand Toyota engines. This site was created by Matti Kalalahti, a well respected Toyota enthusiast.
Matti Kalalahti's Toyota Site Here is the section within Matti's site that explains the engine codes: Toyota Engine Codes Explained Please bookmark this page because like many of us, including me, you will find this a valuable reference. Regarding your AE101 Corolla, either go 4AGZE or 3SGTE. Good luck...

Although the site was quite informative, I still do not know what fits into what. Maybe I just don't know how to read it. But it's most likely because I'm not at all intellectual about cars and especially not engines. Thanks for the help though. Anything easier? |

A hybrid consisting of a 7A block and a G-type head would make a nice setup. I believe in www.corollaperformance.com, there was mention about a stroker kit for such a setup. If you're going to go that route, you might as well rebuild the bottom end anyway.
