a/c help

Hey. A friend of mine is having some problems with her 98 s-10's a/c. It just puts out hot air. She had to get some work done anyway so she had the guy at Meineke fix a few of her other problems (new muffler, etc). The guy told her that her fuse was blown and he replaced it. It put out cold air until she turned it off and when she turned it back on later, it only put out hot air again. She changed the fuse again but after turning it on and off, it put out hot air again. She wanted to know why but the guy wanted to charge her $65 for a diagnostic for something we could probably do ourselves. Can anybody help us?

Re: a/c help

See if the compressor is turning on- if it is- you have actual A/C problems instead of something simple like a fuse or switch. If most of the freon was leaked out of the system the compressor won't engage. It has a low pressure sensor. If it is on the edge of not having enough pressure this may be why it sometimes works.

Re: a/c help

Does this S-10 have a 2.2 ? If so trace the wires from the compressor back. I've seen them get smashed between the air box and a coolant pipe causing them to short out resulting a blown 10 amp A/C relay fuse.

a/c problems

I own a 95 s10 and there is no power geting to the cable which turns on the compressor. I think its the relay. I alrady checked the fuses and they're fine. can someone tell me where the A/C relay is located? and which one is it? I don't have the car's manual.

Unhappy A/C Help

It seems that I am having the same problem as Xeno41. I have a 95 GMC Sonoma with a 2.2L. There is no power to the ac compressor and I can't figure out where the low pressure sensor is so that I can jump it. The manual says that it is located on the evaporator and I located it on my wifes 99 Blazer with the 4.3L engine but the 2.2L ac is different. I looked and felt all around the evaporator and the hose coming from the condensor but see nothing.

Can anyone help with this mystery????????

I'm having the same problem with my 97 s-10. There is no low level switch on the ac lines I have been told it is handeled by a computer mod. that uses the wiring from the high pressure side of the system. If anyone can tell me how to test the relays for the ac system that are on the firewall I would be most greatfull.
