Whistling noise
Well i have a 3.4 2000 impala and the cars been great to me other than the fact i had to put a new transmission in at 36000 miles. But anyway whenever i am driving (at any speed)and i floor the pedal or 3/4 of the way down i start to hear a whistle coming from the car. Now i only hear this when i have the windows down and only when i accelerate, but a few of my friends have to me its pretty loud. Now i know a fair amount about cars but im stumped on this one and i would like to know if u guys have had any problems like this or what u guys think this might be coming from. Thanks

Try revving it
Can you hear it when you are sitting still revving on the motor?

Re: Whistling noise
I hate bringing up old post's, but I have the same problem. I took my impala to autozone because of the check engine light and they said "replace the EGR valve", so I did. Needless to say it didn't fix it, but it does seem to run better. To me the location of the sound is coming from the back side of the engine. I am also stumped and would appreciate any input to fix this problem. In addition...since I have had this problem the car is (for the most part) gutless. Thanks again!

Re: Whistling noise
It sounds like the intake manifold gasket is starting to go, which is a VERY common issue on the 3400. This will cause a vacuum leak at WOT which in turn can make a whistling noise. This vacuum leak will also trip an EGR valve code, as the PCM uses the MAP sensor vacuum signal to determine EGR flow. You should also check the throttle body mounting gasket (another possible cause of a vacuum leak and whistle), and look for coolant in the oil (another sign of a failed intake gasket).
