opinion on 90' talon

was looking for a talon, i found a 1990 but the lady says it needs to have attention at the balanceing shaft... shes asking 500 dollars for the car, everythign is there and its a five speed non turbo, was wondering if im getting my self into something thats not worth it? let me know, also i noticed when i look it up on KBB.com that it will say front wheel drive... is it a possibility that its not AWD because its not a turbo??? how would i find out before she sells the car?!~?

Re: opinion on 90' talon

its not AWD, the turbo ones arent even always AWD, the TSI is turbo and the TSI AWD is AWD.

Re: opinion on 90' talon

If it drives, bring it to a mechanic and get a professional's opinion. That always seems to work best.

I have a 90 talon that I got for free. The stick trans was bad and i thought i could get a used one cheep ,because i work at a big salvage yard. i got one cheep but it turned out to be bad. I thought i would just get another, not happening. You need the same one out of the same year and same motor. They are some what rare to find uesed because a lot of them crack do to misuse.

I thikn you are right somewhat on this, but if you are completely wrong then the people at DSM are a bunch of retards, because there is a turbo and a non turbo engine, and an auto and a manual, and not sure if the AWD transmisison is just a bolt on addition, same gears with the addition of a rear output in a modified case or a complete new tranny.

plus in 1993 and 94 there was a 1.8 and a 2.0 liter non turbo. so between automatics and manuals they would have to producing 4 different trannies a year from 1990-1992 and then 6 a year from 1993-1994. so 24 different trannies for one generation of vehicle model, I dont think so , and that was without taking into consideration the AWD trannies for the turbos might be different ones(which I highly doubt though since they would be bolting to the same exact engine and would be going in practically the exact same car minus the rear drivetrain)

I bet you just need ot get one that was mated to your engine. year shouldnt matter.

and I dont know about the nonturbo ones, but with the turbo ones I know the 2nd gens are plagued by crankwalk and the 1st gens hafd weak trannies, I know a kid with a 1st gen TSI AWD and his tranny went out wiht not too many miles on the car and I never saw him really abuse the car.

Hello,94

Two other friends of mine have Talons and both have cracked bell housings.

Re: opinion on 90' talon

crazydriver7686;
I can confirm, it if is non turbo it will not be AWD, it would be FWD.

You leave information out that would be meaningful. How many miles does the car have on it? Is it running? How does the car look, i.e., does it appear it has been taken care of?

A 90 Talon is definitely worth more than $200. Kelly Blue book lists a 90 Talon, in fair condition, with 120,000 miles, at a value of $750 (private party). Good condition bumps it up to $1,100.

Any car that runs and is driveable is worth $500.

Re: opinion on 90' talon

i bought a different car, beside thiso ne had no oil pan no timming cover, and no exhaust and she still wanted 500 dollars, she said the balance shaft went on it.... so its not even AWD and its a NON turbo, so therefore not worth it

Thumbs down simple

This is very simple question to answer...
...It's not turbo??? DON'T GET IT! It's not worth it.
Talons are meant to drive fast and if they're non-turbo they're Not!
