Change Oil Soon??????

HEY GUYS, GOT MY OIL CHANGED WHEN I REPLACED MY PLUGS AND WIRES ABOUT TWO WEEKS AGO. NOW, I START MY CAR TODAY AND IT SAYS CHANGE OIL SOON. WTF??? I GET HOME AND CHECK IT AND ITS AT THE ADD POINT. IM GONNA GO AND GET MORE OIL RIGHT NOW BUT IS THIS NORMAL???? IM SURE ITS NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!! THE MECHANIC CLAIMED THAT HE PUT 9 QUARTS IN, WELL OVER THE 7 1/2 QUARTS THAT HAVE BEEN RECOMMENDED ON THIS FORUM. ANY HELP WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED AS ALWAYS.

The oil life in the DIC has to be manually reset if you or the mechanic didn't do so already. Just press engine until the oil life display comes up, then press and hold reset until it goes to 100%.

As for adding 9 quarts, he very well might have. The dipstick on the 95s is too short by around a quart. You need to fill just to the bottom of the add lines at the very end of the dipstick or get the longer dipstick from a 97 or so from a junkyard or somewhere. I may have heard a few 96s have the wrong one too, but I don't know for sure. You probably just leaked/burned off the excess oil until it was back to normal to due to a little higher pressure, but you might take a peek at your oil filter and make sure it isn't all ballooned out. It'll start looking like a pop can left in a hot car before it fails MOST of the time.

Oh, and while we all looove to be helpful and knowledgable, even the owners manual agrees with the 7.5 quarts per oil change

I have also read in MANY places that these cars are known to burn oil I think around the rings. Is this a problem for anyone else. Most of the places that I have seen them talking about this say its normal to burn at least a quart per oil change. I haven't seen any leaks or spots under the car but I know that my car could be doing it.

Ditto Kev, my 96 burns off about a quart of oil per 3000 miles (5000 km)

During a trip to NH, and returning doing some very long term aggressive driving, I burned off almost 2L of oil. No leaks though.

9 quarts! The capacity is 7.5 quarts. If you don't have some of that drained out, you're going to cause the rear crankshaft seals to prematurely fail. I know, it happened to me.
