Question broke down

we started the baby yesturday went for a ride, got to our destination and went to get a bite to eat, came back out and she wouldn't turn. so we towed her back here. Well first we thought it was the starter, so we got another starter, still not turning, then we thought the battery was dead (however the lights are working but not the stereo) so we charged the battery. We are at our wits end. what could it be, any suggestions?

we thought maybe the fuses, or could our chip in our key go bad.

please help thx

Re: broke down

did you check to see how many volts the battery has? or that the cables are on good and not all coroded or something. go take the battery cables off and wipe anything off the posts and then put the back on tight and try it again.

If you put the new battery in it and stil didnt get any sound, proceed to work you way back. Check the battery cable terminals, the battery cables themselves, and if you still arent getting any sound what so ever start looking into the ignition.

Re: broke down

yeah my IROC acted up a while ago, turned out to be my positive battery cable, had corrosion in it, and cut power to the C100 power distribution connector at the firewall, so my ignition, and everything associated with it, went dead, while all the things under the hood still had power. that one drove me nuts for the few days it took to find it. then as soon as i found it, it fixed its self, havent had aproblem yet, still have the cable on order but yeah, checking the fuses is a good idea, also its possible that you cooked a fusable link, most of em are located close to the starter, if you have a test light, the easiest way to find the problem is to test for power at the battery, then, follow the power cable to the next link in the chain, test for power, so on and so forth, till you find where the power stops, and boom, theres your problem.

Re: broke down

well i know of a fairly large number of GM, and a few others, cars and trucks that have a problem with overheating starter solenoids. thats why they make remote solenoids. everyone i know that has actualy run a remote solenoid they no longer have that problem. but i also know many people who didnt run a remote soleniod and they dont have the problem anymore. so it could be that too. but i would still say her problem seems more like a wiring problem of some sort.

broke down

ok, guys this is what we have found out, the box that the key goes into, somehow our anti-theft device has gone bad, so the chip in the key has somehow gone bad too. AFTER 2 new parts and 3 days later, we get that far. THANKS A LOT for all your guy's help, we tried everything everyone suggested.
