Towing too much? How bad?
I have an 04 Chevy Silverado 1500. The max towing capacity is 6400 according to the door sticker. My total weight with trailer and car I want to tow is 7500. How bad is that?

Re: Towing too much? How bad?
You could consult a truck specialist and see if you can upgrade your truck to get it up to the weight limit. Maybe having your springs strengthened or replaced, your brake system beefed up and in general having your suspension and engine improved. We have a shop here called Pick Ups Plus that does all kinds of work to make a truck more capable.

Re: Towing too much? How bad?
I think what you are talking about is the GVWR and all that is is how much payload you can carry. Look in your owners manual and it will tell ya what combined truck/trailer weight is (it will be alot higher then 6400 lbs, if yoru truck has the 5.3, thenit probably has a tow rating of 7500 lbs, so that means it could pull a 7500 lbs trailer)
