Odometer on 1996 Jetta

Riddle you this,

Recently my 1996 Jetta GL rolled over to 300 thousand KM and then the odometer rolled back to ZERO.

ANY ideas.

Did you see the 3-9 digits spin by in the 100,000 place or did it not have them?

I does have any digits in the hundreds or thousands place until they were required. I now have about 10 765 KM but thats all that shows.
