'04 Fog Lamp question

Hi, hope someone can help. I just purchased factory OEM Fog lamps for my '04 Cavalier Ls. I also purchased the dimmer switch for the dashboard and all connectors for the wire up. I was looking to have them professional installed. But after recieving the lamps and looking them all over they have two studs on the back where as bolts screw down onto them. I looked at the inside fasica of the bumper where the lamps are to be installed it doesn't seem to have any kind of bracket that they would bolt to. I am wondering what this bracket would look like and where besides the dealer i could get it. I have searched thru all the online collision parts sites and have not been able to locate a visual image of what this part would look like. If anyone could please point me in the right direction to aquiring these parts i would appreciate it. and if someone who has factory installed fog lamps could get me a picture of your lamps installed that would even be more helpful to know what this part even looks like....

Thanks in advance for your help it is greatly appreciated....

Re: '04 Fog Lamp question

dont waste your money to have someone do something as simple as screw on 2 lights and wire a switch. Just get out on your hands and knees and start working, the solution will come to you.

I sure hope someone with a '03 or '04 cavalier with factory installed fog lamps will help me out. I am just looking to see what the brackets look like and where they bolt up on the frame...

well seems another story of the dealer trying to reem me in the ass.....

First off i was going to try to install my fog lamps myself and was investigating all procedures on preforming the install, but recently have'nt been unable to find the time, my work schedule seems to be taking all my extra time away.

So today I dropped my car off at the Chevrolet Dealer to see what all it would cost to have them installed. Now I do have the factory lamp assemblies and factory switch for the dash. All i thought i needed would have been the holes removed from the bumper, a couple electrical connectors, a inline fuse and two brackets for the installation.

The dealer would not install them. They said that after looking at the car that I may need a new wiring harness from right headlight to left headlight and a complete harness from front end of the car to underneath the fuse block and would most likely take a new fuse block in the dash with a slot for the fog lamp relay. They also said that even after the install of these new components this may still not work due to the computer might not accept the proper code for the fog lamps and that i might have to have a new computer installed. I have a Cavalier LS that did not come equipped with the sports package so the front bumper cover even after cutting out the leuvers would not have the proper slot to bolt the fog lamps to and they don't make a kit to install them. So they advised me to take it to a electrical shop So i did and they said the same. FUCCCCCCCCCK

So these are the items and prices needed to install them lol...

Front Bumper w/sports package 259.00 plus paint match price unknown for color match
Relay 25.00
Fuse Block 96.00
Wiring Harness 565.00
Wiring Connectors 12.00
Computer 186.00
I have two factory Fog Lamps and Indash Switch
Plus 168.00 Labor
DAMN

is this correct ????????? seems to me not worth the effort or cost. I mean there has to be a cheaper way to do this. I am not much into electrical so please excuse my ignorance on these issues, Can anyone help me please?

Re: '04 Fog Lamp question

If you want everything to work as if it was there from stock you may be sol. i am also adding fogs to my cavalier. the fogs i am adding are from a malibu. my cavalier is an 02, i believe there are only minor differences between ours. crawl about 6 inches under the front of your cav and look up, on mine i have two empty spots behind the face of the bumper. this is where i am cutting the holes for mine. all you have to do is trace your fogs on to the face of the bumper, measure to verify proper placement, cut the holes and secure them. as far as wiring i want to have 2 pairs of fog lights when everything is said and done, one that comes on with low beam and the other that comes on with high. the only problem is that we have drl's, this means that if the fogs are controlled by the high beams they will always be on with the drl's. the drl's are the high beams run at 50%. one solution to this would be a relay that wont trip unless voltage is above the voltage used for the drl's. i would assume that being a solenoid any regular relay would work with minor modification. if the drl voltage is enough to trip the relay you could add a resistor to the control line dropping the voltage. first you would start with a potentiometer(a variable resistor). after you have adjusted it to the point that the drl voltage isnt enough but the high beam voltage is you would test the pot's resistance with an ohm meter and replace the pot with the same value regular type resistor. if you want to have a sport bumper with stock fog holes one can be had from a junkyard. if you dont want them to come on with the high beam i can explain how to wire them differently.
