Problem with CAI

now my friend with his 2000 gt just got his $70 CAI in the mail today. first off the connectors don't match very well. but a quick trip to lowes and we have new connectors. then we installed the cai with that sensor thingy and it ran like crap. i then unpluged the sensor wire and it ran fine. now is this a problem to leave it off? and does the cai actually help? b/c he swears that he does not feel a difference. or does it take more than one bolt on to do something? thnx for your time, sorry i'm not to fimiliar with mitsubishi's

Re: Problem with CAI

The sensor thing you speak of I am assuming is the MAS. Yes, you must plug that in. the whole ECU relies on that.

ok, that is what i thought. now im not sure about where the cai is supposed to go on an eclipse, but it seemed awefully close to the ground. was the cai suppossed to come with a gaurd? and somehow did he purchase or was sent a wrong cai. even with the bad connectors?
b/c when we connected the MAS the car ran worse. then i disconnected the MAS and it ran fine. then we put the stock intake back on and the check engine light came on when we connected the MAS. we had to reset the battery to get it to go away.

Re: Problem with CAI

It sounds like he got what $70 worth of intake is. Probably off Ebay right? If you are going to buy any parts of Ebay, do NOT buy generic shit. I would not buy anything automotive related simply because you have no recourse if the item is faulty or defective. Read the fine print on those items. Almost 100% of them say "No Refunds accepted period", or something along those lines.

Re: Problem with CAI

What you say makes no sense. It should be the complete opposite. I would try and get the SES light to go on again, then, dont clear it out, go to Autozone and get them to give you the code and code definition. Post that up so we can get a better idea of whats happeneing.

Re: Problem with CAI

When the car ran like sh!t, did you take it out immediatly or did you give the ecu a chance to get used to the cai? Also your friend probably wont notice that much of a difference with an ebay cai, its negligible gains until really cold weather and more mods. Good luck

thnx for the input. i have told people before that it takes an ecu a bit to get used to changes with the car and they never believe me. and no he did not give it a chance. but aren't they all just piping?or is it the materials that they are made of? the cai i mean.
