Hi there. I live in Northern NSW, Australia and am wondering whether anyone out there has built, used or seen a Tomei SR22DE NA engine in action. Based on their website http://www.tomei-p.co.jp/_2003web-ca...ompengine.html, I am unsure whether this will suit the FWD platform if I source the SR22 NA Hi compression pistons and crank.
My previous SR ended up with an electrical problem - piston 1 & 2 both came out the side of the block and smashed my alternator! So I only hope the Tomei product is more reliable. Tomei quote approx 265hp from their stroker kit. Does anyone know of a reputable Australian company which could supply a similiar setup to Tomei? Has anyone experimented with quad throttle bodies on these motors? What were the gains? Last edited by mmcleo11; 01-25-2006 at 09:08 PM. |

Re: Tomei SR22DE in N14 SSS Pulsar?
Just wanted to update everyone on what I have achieved. I used a 91mm stroke crank, with SR20DET conrods, Tomei rod bolts, Nismo bearings, SR16VE head with slighty enlarged valves and 4 into 1 extractors, which yielded 220hp at the front wheels on C12 fuel. So with the right launch techinique, my best quarter mile run has been a 13.24 sec at 103.7 miles an hour.
Reason for edit: Remove stuff I decided against doing, ie not use Nitrous Last edited by mmcleo11; 01-25-2006 at 09:12 PM. |

Nice!!
What does it redline at with the SR16ve head? I wouldn't think the bottom end would like more than 7,000 but the head would need closer to 8 to make its full hp? (could also explain why on your last engine two pistons went through the block, thats not normaly the result of an "electrical problem").

Re: Tomei SR22DE in N14 SSS Pulsar?
The Tomei crank is fully counterweighted, with some really trick designs + the car has 86.2mm forged pistons and with high compression(11.7:1) / longer stroke / extra capacity, I have to say that the engine is tractable all the way through to the current 9500rpm rev limit but Tomei claim it can rev to 11,000rpm with the right camshafts.
As the SR16VE engine is of smaller capacity, my SR22(2124cc)VE requires less revs to achieve similiar gas flow. Thus peak power is not at 9500rpm(about 8500rpm) but if I can source a new camshaft with higher lift on the hi-rpm lobe, it could be worthwhile. However, I have currently lost my licence for speeding in my other car. To answer your question: I call it an electrical problem because after the engine destroyed itself, the alternator was smashed and shorted out... I still managed to get about 300metres running on piston 3&4 before the computer died. |

Re: Tomei SR22DE in N14 SSS Pulsar?
Hey there.
Im very interested in your results here as im just in the middle of building a sr20ve. Ive got both the sr16ve and the 20ve and am looking to get 250hp at the fly which wont be to difficult from what im reading here. If you dont mind sharing a few things with me id really like to have a chat and ask you a few questions etc. If thats cool email [email protected]
