Help with 97 Mazda Protege

I have a 97 Mazda Protege LX Automatic Transmission. For the past couple of weeks the thermostat will immediately go all the way to the "H" when I accelerate. Also, earlier this week I think car my have overheated becuase the antifreeze was all over the ground. When I got home the antifreeze was filled almost to the top in the reserved tank. Then after the car cooled there was a very small amount of antifreeze in the tank. But there was antifreeze in the radiator.

I got a man to look at the car and he noticed that the pipe thats connected to the radiator was not getting hot and he said it suppose to get hot. We let the car run and it took a while for the fans to come on(one fan came on first but i'm not sure if the other came on).
The guy suggest that it could be the thermostat or the water pump, but not sure.

Can anyone give me some suggestions on what should I do.[/size]

Re: Help with 97 Mazda Protege

That actually happened to me a couple of weeks ago. I have a 97 Protege'. I actually found out though that one of my belts broke off.. I had to get the thermostat replaced though. May be water pump though. Check the thermostat though. They are inexpensive and you can rule that out first...
