Re: question about engine/oil

if its burning oil then the rings are prolly going bad. I have the same problem with mine. I think. a new fuel filter helps a little(don't know why) but I just put a 300zx TT filter on mine and it's not burning as much. but if the rings are going out it's not cheap to fix unless you do it or know someone that knows what they're doing.

Re: question about engine/oil

don't buy that car and be patient. engines burn oil, i believe, when it's under a lotta stress like parts are creating excessive friction. seriously, have people become so desperate for 240sx's that they'll just go out and buy even a totalled car??(hmm...maybe i can make a profit offa this trend)
someone should really start up an economics branch observing the market for 240sx's.

Burning oil = worn rings and /or valve guide seals. Dont buy it...its beat.

It might not be too bad, How much is the asking price? If the rest of the car is clean, and he's asking for like $1000-$2000, just get it and drop a rebuilt KA in there for $600-$1500 when that one finaly goes. If he wants like 3K+ for it I would probably walk away.

all older engines burn oil, its nothing out of the ordinary.

How much oil does it burn is the real question. If it goes through a quart a month or every few weeks its not too bad. If it goes through a quart a day or somewhere in that spectrum then its got a problem that needs to be adressed.

Re: question about engine/oil

does anyone know why a dirty fuel filter makes the car burn oil, or was I just buning very dirty gas. I just changed it the other day it hasn't burnt anymore oil. (when I drained the old filter it looked like dirty oil)
