gauge problem

i have an '98 jimmy and about a week ago the tach and speedometer started to flucuate and evetualy stopped working. i saw the earlier post about the ignition switch and it sounds like the same problem. on start up the tach will jump then go out also the gas hand wont work but the oil pres. and batt work. it also wont alow the key to come out without coaxing. the strangest thing is when i push the trip odometer all gauges work fine.also the trans is not shifting. any help will be wonderful as i said before it souns like the early post of a bad ing. switch

sorry for such a long post.
